CLIMBING TO RAISE AWARENESS FOR DEMENTIA
Kuntal Joisher, 34-year-old computer engineer, was born in Mumbai, India, where he grew up spending summers with his family in the valleys of the Himalayas and climbing local mountains. Putting nature aside, he later went to the United States to pursue his education. After receiving his Master’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Southern California and later working in the IT sector, Joisher decided to come back to Mumbai. In part, he returned home to care for his father who suffers from Lewy Body dementia, or LBD. Day by day, Joisher has watched helplessly as his father slips away from this incurable disease. This life’s trial has inspired Joisher to climb Mt. Everest. For over four years, Joisher has been training and preparing for this climb all over the world, from the Himalayas to Patagonia. For Joisher, reaching the top of the world’s highest peak is an opportunity to to realize his lifelong dream while bringing awareness to LBD.
Defy Agency was commissioned by CallFire (a Santa Monica based technology company) to follow and document Kuntal’s journey.
